I write to reflect, share, connect and collaborate. Through professional dialogues and on-going learning, I want to discover more on how educators can help students become autonomous learners and critical thinkers who care about humanity through education. Support refugee scholars
KIS offers scholarships for two refugee students, who are registered with the UNHCR as an asylum seeker and/or refugee. The KIS refugee scholarship provides:
The scholarship, however, does not include fee for personal items, learning materials or entertainment. For example, refugee students are responsible for stationary, backpacks, clothing, and so on. If they would like to attend any other school event, such as the prom, they will need to pay out of their own pocket . It is prohibited and illegal for their parents to work due to their refugee status. On top of that, they also do not have enough money for food and rent. Therefore, it is challenging for refugee students to engage in social activities sometimes.
KIS refugee scholarship is a huge source of pride for KIS. To date, we have served 10 students, with one alumnus who is studying engineering at Georgia Tech, one who is studying to become an airplane mechanic in California, and another who is studying Bio-Chemistry in Holland.
I believe every student has the right to receive education and engage in student social events. I would like to support my students and help them develop in all aspects, academically, socially and emotionally. If you like the resources I have created, please consider making a donation to support these refugee students via my PayPal account. All funds will be used to help refugee scholars who attend my school. With your help, I believe we will be able to support these refugees students more extensively.
